Object First, a company specializing in ransomware-resistant on-premises backup storage solutions, has announced that Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH), a public institution of higher education located in Lisbon, has adopted the Ootbi solution to enhance the protection of its critical data through immutable backups.
The deployment, carried out by the technology partner TMVM, enabled the new infrastructure to be operational in just 15 minutes, facilitating a rapid rollout and minimizing disruption to the institution’s operations.
ENIDH, which trains professionals in maritime, transportation, and logistics fields, has a community of 110 staff members and nearly 750 students. The decision to modernize its data protection strategy came after the organization experienced two serious incidents within three years, which forced a complete rebuild of its backup environment. In response, they sought a solution specifically optimized for Veeam that could deliver high levels of protection without increasing their small IT team’s workload.
Object First’s solution provides a secure, easy-to-manage, fully immutable backup storage environment, designed specifically to integrate with Veeam®. Its deployment and management do not require advanced cybersecurity knowledge, making it accessible for organizations with limited technological resources.
Additionally, the platform offers high performance to speed up backup processes and instant recovery tasks, allowing organizations to scale efficiently. Object First’s technology, validated by independent organizations, is designed to protect data against ransomware attacks and strengthen recovery capabilities amid increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
“By deploying Object First Ootbi across our entire backup infrastructure, we have significantly enhanced our cyber resilience while simplifying daily operations. The solution has eliminated recurring repository failures, improved backup and data recovery performance, and almost eliminated maintenance tasks for the infrastructure. As a result, our IT team can now focus more on strategic initiatives rather than managing and rebuilding backup repositories,” says Pedro Morais, IT Director at ENIDH.
“We were looking for a solution with immutability by design, native integration with Veeam, and operational simplicity. Object First checked all those boxes,” Morais adds.
“Today, we have peace of mind knowing that, even with administrative access, backups cannot be deleted or modified. The risks associated with human error or internal threats have been significantly reduced, and ransomware protection is now effective—not just theoretical,” Morais concludes.
