DE-CIXDE-CIX (Deutscher Commercial Internet Exchange) is an entity…, a global leader in interconnection services, has announced its expansion into South America with the launch of two new Internet Exchanges in Brazil. This initiative marks the company’s entry into its fifth continent, solidifying its global presence in the telecommunications sector.
Key digital hubs
Brazil, home to 165 million Internet users and one of the world’s strongest economies, has become a strategic choice for DE-CIX’s expansion. São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the cities selected for this launch, are digital powerhouses in the country hosting critical infrastructure for many of the nation’s largest companies and service providers.
The South American country presents a huge demand for reliable, scalable, and resilient connectivity solutions. Despite being a large and mature digital market, Brazil still lacks a significant number of Internet Exchanges to cater to its population size. DE-CIX’s entry into this market not only provides an alternative but also a complementary solution to existing exchanges, improving redundancy and expanding options for businesses and network operators.
Connecting Brazil to the world
The new Internet Exchanges in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will be housed in various data centers. In São Paulo, the facilities at Elea Data CentersA data center or data processing center (CPD)… SPO1, Equinix SP4, and Ascenty SP4 will serve as initial locations. Meanwhile, in Rio de Janeiro, the exchanges will be launched in Elea Data Centers RJO1 and Equinix RJ2.
These new exchange points will be connected to DE-CIX’s global ecosystem, linking to other major exchanges like DE-CIX in New York, Lisbon, and Madrid. This will ensure smooth data exchange across the Atlantic, providing Brazilian companies access to thousands of networks in America and Europe.
By offering a wide range of enterprise-level interconnection services, including cloud connectivity through its Cloud Exchange, the São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro IXs will open up new possibilities for Internet service providers, content providers, and businesses.
Future perspectives
The new Internet Exchanges in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are expected to be operational next year. This expansion will not only strengthen Brazil’s digital infrastructure but also enhance global connectivity, facilitating economic growth and innovation in the region.
