Global Expansion: Five New Locations and a 20% Increase in Capacity
In numbers, DE-CIX reached 170 terabits (Tbits) of globally connected capacity in 2024, representing a 20% increase from 2023. Additionally, its interconnected ecosystem grew to over 4,000 networks, with a 10% increase in active connections compared to the previous year.
During the year, five new exchanges were inaugurated:
- Penang IX (Malaysia)
- DE-CIX Jakarta (Indonesia)
- Bengaluru (India)
- PIE Karachi (Pakistan)
- IRAQ-IXP (Baghdad) – under the “DE-CIX as a Service” model
These new additions reinforce DE-CIX’s expansion strategy in emerging markets in Asia and the Middle East.
Notable Growth in Key Regions
The DE-CIX Phoenix (USA) exchange experienced a 45% increase in connected networks and a 500% growth in peak traffic, while DE-CIX Chicago recorded a 30% increase in networks and over 200% in maximum traffic.
In the Middle East, UAE-IX in Dubai positioned itself as the largest IX in the region with an 80% increase in customer capacity and a 40% rise in peak traffic. Meanwhile, the Asian ecosystem grew by 150% in capacity and 240% in the number of connected networks.

In 2025, DE-CIX will celebrate 30 years of technical excellence in peering, solidifying three decades of contributions to the efficiency of global data traffic.
