The storage specialist brand unveils its fastest SSD to date and an ultra-compact portable model, along with a USB4 prototype that reaches 4 GB/s.
At the Computex 2025 technology fair, Crucial showcased significant advancements in its high-performance storage line. The star of the show was the new Crucial T710 SSD, a PCIe 5.0 model that achieves sequential speeds of up to 14.9 GB/s and 2.2 million IOPS, accompanied by a substantial reduction in power consumption and improvements in thermal design. Alongside it, the Crucial X10 was announced, a portable SSD with up to 8 TB of capacity, featuring enhancements in durability, speed, and design.
T710: extreme performance and efficiency for laptops and desktops
The Crucial T710 is the direct successor to the acclaimed T705, raising the bar in nearly every aspect. Compatible with the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and built on the new SMI SM2508 controller, the T710 achieves a sequential performance of 14.9 GB/s in read and 13.8 GB/s in write, representing a substantial improvement over its predecessor.
However, it stands out not just for its speed. The model introduces a single-sided format, ideal for laptops, and is available in versions with and without a heatsink. The latter has been redesigned with a height reduction from 21 mm to 11 mm, thanks to a new system of circular ventilation channels. Additionally, it incorporates a diffuse white LED light to indicate write or read activity.
Key features of the T710:
- Capacities: 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB
- Controller: Silicon Motion SM2508
- NAND: Micron 276L G9 TLC at 3,600 MT/s
- Power consumption: a reduction of 67% in random read and 80% in random write
- Random performance: up to 2.2 million IOPS in read and 1.8 million in write
- Included DRAM cache (capacity unspecified)
- Endurance (TBW): from 600 to 2,400 TB, depending on capacity
- DirectStorage compatibility
- Availability:
- No heatsink: July 1, 2025
- With heatsink: throughout Summer 2025

X10: extreme portable storage, up to 8 TB
Together with the T710, Crucial introduced the new X10 portable SSD, with read speeds of up to 2,100 MB/s via USB 3.3 Gen 2×2, doubling the figures of its predecessor. The X10 features the SM2322 controller and comes in a compact format with durable enclosures.
Notable specifications of the Crucial X10:
- Capacities: 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB, 6 TB, and 8 TB
- Read speed: up to 2,100 MB/s
- Durability:
- IP65: dust and splash resistant
- Drop-resistant: up to 3 meters (9.8 feet)
- Availability: already on sale
The 6 TB model is particularly interesting, filling a price range between 4 TB and 8 TB, which is uncommon for these types of devices.
USB4 Prototype: 4 GB/s in the palm of your hand
During Computex, Crucial also showcased a USB4 portable SSD prototype, achieving speeds of 4,000 MB/s in read and 3,700 MB/s in write in CrystalDiskMark. Although there’s no confirmation of its commercialization yet, the company aims to solve common compatibility issues with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 and presents an interesting evolution of the USB4 standard for high-performance storage.
An overview of the Crucial 2025 ecosystem
With the arrival of the T710, Crucial solidifies its position as a leader in high-performance storage for professional and enthusiast environments. The new design is ideal for gaming and workstations that demand speed, efficiency, and compatibility with AI and technologies like DirectStorage.
The X10, for its part, stands out as an attractive solution for mobile users, content creators, and professionals needing large portable capacities that are robust and high-performing.
