CoreWeave Launches Two Data Centers in the UK with NVIDIA H200 GPUs to Enhance AI Infrastructure

CoreWeave, known as the “AI hyperscaler”, has announced the operation of two data centers in the UK, specifically in Crawley and London Docklands. These facilities will host some of the largest deployments of NVIDIA’s H200 artificial intelligence platform in Europe, powered by the NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand network. This development aims to significantly accelerate high-performance computing capabilities in the UK.

A Strategic Boost for AI Infrastructure in the UK

These centers are CoreWeave’s first operations in the UK and are part of an initial investment of £1 billion announced last year. Furthermore, during the October 2024 International Investment Summit, CoreWeave revealed an additional investment of £750 million in the country. London has also been chosen as its European headquarters in 2024, solidifying the company’s commitment to the region.

The first data center, located in Crawley, began operations in October 2024 in partnership with Digital Realty. The second, situated in London Docklands, started operations in December 2024 in collaboration with Global Switch. Both facilities operate solely on renewable energy, aligning with CoreWeave’s commitment to sustainability.

NVIDIA H200: Cutting-Edge Technology

In August 2024, CoreWeave became the first cloud provider to offer NVIDIA H200 GPUs to its customers. These next-generation GPUs are specifically designed for artificial intelligence workloads, enabling significant advancements in performance and efficiency. With these centers, CoreWeave offers its specialized AI cloud platform in the UK, allowing businesses and research labs to shape the future of artificial intelligence technology.

Mike Mattacola, Chief Commercial Officer of CoreWeave, emphasized:
“Our first operational data centers in the UK are a significant milestone for the company. The UK is a key market for us, with our European headquarters here and additional operational plans in development. We are excited to collaborate with Digital Realty and Global Switch to deliver the next generation of AI infrastructure in the UK.”

Key Partnerships for Sustainable Development

Digital Realty and Global Switch are strategic partners in this expansion. According to Séamus Dunne, Managing Director of Digital Realty in the UK and Ireland:
“Our partnership with CoreWeave marks an important advancement for AI infrastructure in Europe. Hosting one of the largest deployments of NVIDIA H200 GPUs on our Crawley campus enables companies to scale their AI capabilities, supported by high-performance and sustainable infrastructure.”

For his part, Ashley Muldoon, CEO of Global Switch, added:
“We are excited to partner with CoreWeave to deliver its first data center in London on our Docklands campus. This vital infrastructure provides resilient and energy-efficient solutions, essential to meet the growing demand from customers in the UK.”

The UK’s Role in CoreWeave’s Global Growth

With these two data centers, CoreWeave adds 28 operational facilities worldwide by the end of 2024 and plans to open 10 new centers in 2025. This global growth strengthens the company’s position as a leader in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, highlighted the significance of this investment:
“This investment is a great vote of confidence in the UK’s digital technology sector and exactly what we want to see to grow the economy and leverage AI to drive efficiency. We are implementing our Change Plan with investment and reforms to raise living standards across the country.”

CoreWeave’s entry into the UK with these two data centers not only positions the country as a key player in the global AI ecosystem but also underscores the importance of collaboration between advanced technology and sustainability. With the NVIDIA H200 infrastructure and an innovative approach, CoreWeave is poised to lead the next wave of artificial intelligence development in Europe and beyond.
