The new solution allows specific partitions to be restored in seconds, reducing downtime and operational costs in critical AI and cloud applications.
Commvault, a leading provider of cyber resiliency and data protection solutions for hybrid environments, has announced the global launch of Clumio Backtrack for Amazon DynamoDB, a groundbreaking innovation that redefines how organizations restore data in one of the most widely used native cloud NoSQL databases.
DynamoDB, extensively adopted by teams developing high-scalability, low-latency applications such as real-time personalization engines, e-commerce platforms, or AI-driven apps, presents significant challenges when recovering data after human errors, bugs, or operational disruptions. Until now, recovery options required restoring entire tables, even when only specific data was needed, resulting in complex, slow, and costly processes.
Granular, record time recovery
Clumio Backtrack fundamentally changes this paradigm by enabling the reversal of any DynamoDB table to a previous point in time without reconfiguration. It is also possible to recover individual partitions, drastically reducing both the time and cost of recovery. This is a milestone in cloud-native data management, especially for organizations handling billions of records and multiple terabytes.
The technology employs a continuous incremental backup model (“incremental forever”) combined with its instant recovery capability, reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to native AWS options, which only support full backups.
“Clumio Backtrack eliminates the friction and risk associated with database recovery,” highlighted Woon Jung, CTO of Cloud Native at Commvault. “Now teams can restore their data in minutes, not days, and without complex manual operations.”
Boosting application resilience in the AI era
According to Archana Venkatraman, research director at IDC:
“With the rise of cloud and AI-driven applications, the demands for data availability and recovery skyrocket. Precise and timely recovery in DynamoDB is a key advance in reducing risks and enhancing operational agility.”
The introduction of Clumio Backtrack for DynamoDB complements the previous launch of Clumio Backtrack for Amazon S3, broadening the capabilities that enable companies to revert data to specific versions with maximum accuracy and speed.
Availability and pricing
Clumio Backtrack for DynamoDB is now available worldwide through the AWS Marketplace, based on a consumption-based pricing model. Commvault has set up an informational microsite with details on use cases, supported workloads, and additional resources.
