Colt drives global connectivity at IETF 123: Madrid will be the epicenter of the future of the Internet

The company reinforces its key role in developing open standards and next-generation networks.

Colt Technology Services will be one of the official connectivity sponsors of IETF 123, the prestigious gathering of the Internet Engineering Task Force, to be held in Madrid from July 19 to 25, 2025. The announcement solidifies Colt’s position as a key player in the evolution of global digital infrastructure, contributing technical expertise and a high-performance network to serve Internet standards developers.

Beyond providing connectivity during the event, Colt positions itself as a catalyst for innovation. The company will actively participate in working groups dedicated to network automation, post-quantum security, and the convergence of networks and cloud services—critical areas to ensure an open, secure, and scalable Internet.

“IETF is where the future of the Internet is imagined and designed. At Colt, we are proud to support that mission not only with top-tier connectivity but with technical commitment and a forward-looking vision,” says Javier Benítez, Principal Innovation Manager at Colt Spain.

A strategic partner with global reach

Colt’s selection as an IETF 123 sponsor is no coincidence. Following the recent acquisition of Lumen EMEA, Colt now co-manages autonomous system AS 3356, considered the largest Tier 1 IP provider in the world. This strategic move dramatically expands its network capacity and resilience, enabling it to offer enterprise-grade IP transit and global connectivity services.

During the Madrid event, Colt will deploy a high-capacity, secure, and robust infrastructure, essential for the technical needs of a conference that brings together network architects, engineers, technologists, and policymakers from around the world.

A pivotal event for the digital future

IETF is the primary global technical community responsible for defining the open standards governing the Internet. Its meetings are key points where specifications for protocols like HTTP, IPv6, TLS, and QUIC are drafted, debated, and refined. The 123rd edition in Madrid reaffirms Spain’s position as a host of key events in the governance and evolution of the digital ecosystem.

“Driving progress begins with facilitating the conversations that define the future. That’s why this sponsorship is also a statement of principles: supporting the open and collaborative development of the Internet,” added Benítez.

Beyond the event: commitment to standards

Colt’s involvement extends beyond this single event. The company actively participates in global initiatives to develop networking standards, optimize latency, increase the resilience of the global backbone, and ensure communications against emerging threats such as future quantum computing.

This approach strengthens its position as a leader in network services for multinational corporations, carriers, and cloud providers, with a footprint spanning Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Connectivity with purpose

IETF 123 will mark a new chapter in shaping the future of the Internet. Thanks to Colt’s support, over 1,000 in-person and virtual participants will be able to collaborate in real time on a connectivity infrastructure designed to be faultless.

Madrid will become the nerve center of Internet engineering for a week, with Colt as the technical guarantor and strategic partner of an ecosystem that continues to evolve, built on open standards and driven by connectivity.
