Cologix to Invest Over $7 Billion in New Data Center Campus in Ohio

Cologix, a leader in neutral interconnection and hyperscale data center solutions in North America, has announced the acquisition of land in Johnstown, Ohio, to develop a new campus of AI-ready data centers. This project, with scalable capacity of up to 800 MW, reinforces the company’s commitment to digital infrastructure in the region and addresses the growing demand for AI, hybrid cloud, and interconnection solutions.

A campus designed for the era of artificial intelligence

The campus will be located on approximately 62 acres and will feature eight AI-ready data centers once completed. These centers will offer sustainable, high-density, low-latency infrastructure designed to support the increasing technological demands of hyperscale companies and large corporations.

The project, which will commence its first phase in 2025, will include 2 million square feet of available space. According to Cologix, this development will not only support Ohio’s digital economy but will also drive long-term economic and technological growth in the region.

A commitment to the local community and sustainability

The property was acquired from Johnstown Land Company, an affiliate of New Albany Company, and Cologix is working closely with local leaders to ensure that the development aligns with regional priorities.

Johnstown Mayor Donald Barnard expressed his excitement about the project: “Cologix’s choice of Johnstown confirms that our planning policies are paying off. This is a catalytic project that reinforces the promising future of our community. We are confident that Cologix will find an excellent new home in Johnstown.”

Meanwhile, Laura Ortman, CEO of Cologix, highlighted the significance of this expansion: “This campus is not just growth; it’s a commitment to resilience and our ability to anticipate the evolving needs of our customers. We are excited to deepen our investment in Ohio, a key region for our growth strategy in North America.”

Strategic expansion in Ohio

With over a decade of operations in Ohio, Cologix currently manages four data centers in Columbus, totaling 500,000 square feet and a capacity of 80 MW. This year, the company completed the first data center in the region that is AI-ready, and its interconnection ecosystem includes over 50 network and cloud service providers, as well as direct access to Amazon Web Services® Direct Connect, Google Cloud Interconnect, and the Ohio IX internet exchange.

Cologix has noted that this new campus, interconnected via a diverse fiber ring, will solidify its position as the largest provider of interconnection and colocation solutions in Columbus, offering scalable and flexible options for businesses seeking to remain competitive in the digital edge.

A step toward the digital future

The new campus in Johnstown reinforces Cologix’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the data center space. This project not only seeks to meet the growing demand for AI-ready infrastructure but also aims to contribute to Ohio’s economic and technological development.

As the project progresses, Cologix will share more details on the development timeline, capacity, and specific features of its infrastructure.
