Cognizant and Google Cloud expand their AI partnership to boost productivity in software development.

Cognizant to adopt Gemini for Google Cloud in two ways: first, by empowering Cognizant employees to use Gemini as an assistant in software development; and second, Cognizant is integrating advanced Gemini capabilities into its internal operations and platforms. By utilizing Gemini for Google Cloud, Cognizant developers will be equipped to write, test, and deploy code faster and more effectively with the help of AI-driven tools, enhancing the reliability and cost-effectiveness of creating and managing applications for clients.

The potential impact of increased productivity in development is underscored by the results of a recent study by Cognizant and Oxford Economics, New Work, New World, which has revealed that generative AI could inject up to $1 trillion into the US economy by 2032. Through this collaboration, Cognizant and Google Cloud will use Gemini to offer a wide range of benefits to enterprise clients across all sectors, helping them quickly build applications, rigorously test code, and swiftly troubleshoot issues to improve performance throughout the software development cycle.

“Software development is one of the roles most likely to benefit from the way generative AI is redefining the anatomy of work,” said Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant. “Cognizant has committed to investing $1 billion in generative AI over three years because we believe it is a powerful tool to amplify human potential, and our partnership with Google Cloud is foundational to this commitment and to realizing this vision.”

Over the next 12 months, and in line with the company’s Synapse initiative to enhance the skills of one million people worldwide by 2026, Cognizant will invest in training over 70,000 employees across multiple functions at Cognizant in Google Cloud’s AI offerings. Additionally, Cognizant will work to integrate Gemini into its suite of platforms and automated accelerators, starting with the recently announced developer platform Cognizant Flowsource™️.

“Generative AI has the potential to significantly enhance every stage of the software development cycle up to delivery, helping developers quickly generate code, address issues, and automate processes,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud. “By empowering and enabling their workforce on Gemini for Google Cloud, Cognizant can accelerate the speed and quality of software development projects for joint clients.”

Incorporating generative AI capabilities into Cognizant’s internal operations and platforms will help the consultancy foster deeper insights, optimize processes, and enhance user experiences, securely and responsibly. Some key anticipated benefits include:

  • Enhancing Cognizant’s ability to analyze incident reports, quickly identify root causes, and implement solutions across all their platforms.
  • New AI-based chat functions within Cognizant Flowsource™️, enabling users to speed up code development, automate testing and documentation, and increase self-service automation for business users.
  • A more intuitive and personalized user experience for business users and IT teams, applying Gemini’s natural language interface to Cognizant Neuro® AI and Cognizant Neuro IT Operations, so users can easily request updates on operational status and request new services.
  • Quicker information retrieval and analysis in Cognizant Neuro® IT Operations, allowing users to quickly extract the insights needed for their daily work. Users can use a natural language chat interface to quickly access articles from a knowledge base, manuals, best practices, and more.

Aligned with Cognizant’s plans to invest in AI-related skills, the company will establish a Gemini Studio at each of its Cloud AI Innovation hubs in Bangalore, London, and Plano, Texas, to help enterprise customers ideate, design, and scale AI solutions. Cognizant will also establish Gemini Centers of Excellence within its new Google Cloud dedicated delivery centers in Mexico and Romania, and continue its expansion in India to accelerate customer success with generative AI solutions.

Google Cloud will support Cognizant in the ongoing development of AI-based software engineering best practices, and assist Cognizant Google Cloud AI University in launching advanced courses on AI use cases.

Cognizant is a global systems integrator partner of Google Cloud and a featured sponsor of the Google Cloud Next ’24 conference. In May 2023, Cognizant announced a significant generative AI partnership with Google Cloud. This partnership was further expanded in August 2023 to create large-scale language model solutions for the healthcare sector and bring the potential of generative AI to a range of healthcare industry challenges.
