Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (CMG), a leader in reservoir simulation solutions, has announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to optimize its subsurface simulation tools to achieve greater levels of speed, performance, and energy efficiency. This partnership will allow CMG to fully leverage NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform, including the NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU and NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper™ superchips, along with NVIDIA’s high-performance software.
CMG, known for its technical accuracy in subsurface simulations, aims to transform the computational speed of its solutions through the integration of NVIDIA technology, without compromising the accuracy of its models. In addition to enhancing efficiency in oil and gas production, the company has also placed a strong emphasis on supporting the energy transition through advanced simulations of carbon capture and storage (CCS).
“By utilizing NVIDIA’s accelerated computing, CMG has a platform that drives innovation at the intersection of numerical simulation, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing,” stated Pramod Jain, CEO of CMG. “This collaboration with NVIDIA reinforces our commitment to technological excellence, providing our customers with greater value by prioritizing speed and efficiency in our simulation solutions.”
Advancements in Energy Efficiency for the Energy Transition
The collaboration with NVIDIA not only focuses on optimizing conventional energy operations but also on the energy efficiency of transition projects. The ability to run CMG’s solutions on NVIDIA’s GH200 platform reduces energy consumption, enabling companies in the sector to minimize their carbon footprint while optimizing their operations.
Marc Spieler, general manager of energy at NVIDIA, highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “The challenges of subsurface simulation are among the most complex in the world. The adoption of NVIDIA AI and accelerated computing by CMG provides an energy-efficient platform that drives change in conventional energy applications and supports various energy transition initiatives.”
Enabling Faster and More Informed Decisions
By integrating NVIDIA’s advanced technology, CMG will enable energy companies to make faster and better-informed decisions in their hydrocarbon production projects and in clean energy initiatives such as CCS. With this collaboration, the company continues to position itself at the forefront of technological innovation in the energy sector.
