With a distinguished track record that includes key roles at Packet and Equinix, Smith brings extensive experience in building and scaling high-performance cloud infrastructures and bare metal platforms. According to Grand View Research, the bare metal market was valued at $8.44 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 23.9% between 2024 and 2030, driven by the need for high-performance infrastructures and growth in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications. Smith has over 20 years of experience in the digital infrastructure and cloud computing ecosystem. His career began as a partner at Voxel dot Net, a Linux-based cloud platform that was sold to Internap in 2011. In 2014, he co-founded Packet to provide businesses with automated bare metal computing capabilities. After receiving investments from SoftBank, Dell Technologies, Third Point, and Battery Ventures, Packet established itself as a leader in the field, being acquired by Equinix in 2020. At Equinix, Smith led the strategy and development of bare metal and edge services until early 2023.
