Castilla-La Mancha drives its digital transformation with the Digital Transformation Agency as a leader

At the recent Annual Convention of the Association of Telecommunications Operators of Castilla-La Mancha (AOTELCLM), held at the Regional Center for Digital Innovation (CRID) in Talavera de la Reina, the managing director of the Digital Transformation Agency, Juan Ángel Morejudo, reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha to technology and innovation. This agency, which positions itself as the axis of all actions in technology and digital transformation in the region, seeks to improve both citizen services and the development of the business fabric in the adoption of new competencies.

Morejudo highlighted that the Agency not only focuses on optimizing the provision of services by the Administration, but also supports the private sector in acquiring capabilities and creating innovative solutions. “We want to bring quality services to citizens, regardless of their geographical location or socio-economic situation,” he declared. This objective aligns with the vision of the regional president, Emiliano García-Page, to ensure access to digital services for the entire population, especially in rural areas.

Talavera de la Reina, epicenter of innovation

The city of Talavera de la Reina has been designated as the headquarters of this new agency, and Morejudo confirmed that a suitable physical location is already being sought. The choice of Talavera is no coincidence, as the CRID has proven over the past four years to be a magnet for technological and innovative companies, consolidating itself as a pillar of development for the region.

Among the prominent projects that have emerged at the CRID, Morejudo mentioned the Aire Group’s ‘Oasix’ Data Center, the CEISTT (Specialized Center in Computer Science, Security, and Technology) of Unitel, Palo Alto, and Arista, and the Center for Technology Applied to Education (CTAE) of Smart Technologies. These centers not only reinforce the technological infrastructure of the region but also promote job creation and local economic development.

Expansion of connectivity and technology throughout the region

Morejudo emphasized the challenge that Castilla-La Mancha faces due to its wide geographical dispersion and high rural presence. The Digital Transformation Agency has set out to bring connectivity and advanced technologies to every corner of the autonomous community. Currently, 97.8% of the population has access to high-speed fiber optic, and the deployment of 5G reaches 85.9%, with the goal of reaching 100% in the short term.

The Agency, which integrates the former Vice-Ministry of Digital Transformation and the General Directorate of Digital Health, is in the process of integrating its resources. This reorganization allows us to face new challenges and seize opportunities, with a focus on key sectors such as tourism and agriculture, where projects of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence are being developed to improve efficiency and productivity.

A model of public-private collaboration

Morejudo reaffirmed the commitment of the Agency to work closely with AOTEL and other actors in the technology sector. The formula of “active membership” in the CRID by companies in the sector reinforces the model of public-private collaboration, which is essential to achieve the goals of digital transformation in Castilla-La Mancha.

Finally, Morejudo emphasized that Castilla-La Mancha is one of the regions with the highest connectivity in Spain, and that the Digital Transformation Agency will continue to promote technological inclusion and wealth creation in the region. AOTEL, with a presence in more than 500 municipalities, positions itself as a strategic ally in this effort to bring technology and connectivity to all corners of Castilla-La Mancha.
