Carrefour Chooses Spain to Launch Its Global Artificial Intelligence Platform

The distribution chain launches ai.carrefour, a solution based on Gemini 2.0 to digitally transform the retail and food sectors

Carrefour has taken a strategic step in its commitment to the digital transformation of the retail sector by selecting Spain as the pilot country for the global launch of its new artificial intelligence platform: ai.carrefour. The official rollout took place at its corporate headquarters in Madrid, in an event led by Elodie Perthuisot, Executive Director of Carrefour Spain, and Emmanuel Grenier, Global Head of Ecommerce, Data, and Digital Transformation for the group.

The new solution, developed on the technological foundation of Gemini 2.0, aims to integrate artificial intelligence at all levels of the company, facilitating the digital transition for its employees and improving customer service. Ai.carrefour gradually incorporates features aimed at process automation and intelligent decision support.

Among the most innovative initiatives presented is uno.ia, the first “AI super-agent” developed by Carrefour. This virtual assistant is already being used by executives for everyday tasks such as meeting planning, presentation creation, and communication management. In fact, uno.ia was the one who welcomed Emmanuel Grenier to the event, marking a milestone as the first CEO in the retail sector to be received by an artificial intelligence assistant.

In addition to uno.ia, the company announced new super-agent projects aimed at optimizing internal areas such as human resources and customer experience. These tools will allow for the automation of workflows, improve operational efficiency, and further personalize the interaction with consumers.

Meanwhile, Carrefour has announced an ambitious AI training plan for all its employees throughout 2025, aimed at integrating artificial intelligence as a fundamental part of the work culture. “Our ambition is to lead the digital transformation of retail and the food sector. We are committed to opening access to AI for our teams, positioning us as leaders in its adoption,” stated Perthuisot.

The event was broadcast live to over 3,000 employees of the company in Spain and featured technology communicator Pau García-Milà, who delivered an inspiring talk on the impact of AI in the workplace.

This launch is part of the strategic plan initiated by Carrefour in 2021 to become a Digital Retail Company, a digital retail company supported by the intensive use of technology and data, focused on empowering its teams and improving the customer shopping experience.

With this initiative, Carrefour reinforces its leadership in the digital transformation of the sector and sets a precedent for the practical and cross-functional incorporation of artificial intelligence in large-scale distribution.
