Capgemini Becomes the First Partner to Receive SAP Sovereign Cloud Partner Designation

Capgemini has announced that it has become the first SAP partner to earn the designation of SAP Sovereign Cloud Partner, a recognition that strengthens its position as a leader in sovereign cloud solutions and consolidates the strategic technology alliance both companies announced last November.

The certification confirms that Capgemini meets the demanding requirements set by SAP in areas such as data residency and protection, operational control, governance, security, and service delivery capabilities. As a result, organizations can progress in their digital transformation and AI adoption processes while maintaining strict control over their critical infrastructures and sensitive information.

This recognition initially applies in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK, but its impact extends to clients worldwide seeking to deploy cloud and AI solutions in environments aligned with digital sovereignty principles.

Thomas Saueressig, Chief Customer Officer and member of SAP SE’s Executive Committee, emphasized the significance of this milestone for the European tech ecosystem. He stated that Europe’s competitiveness relies on combining technological innovation with robust digital sovereignty standards. In this regard, he highlighted that the new status achieved by Capgemini demonstrates its ability to implement large-scale sovereign cloud solutions and assist organizations in adopting advanced technologies while respecting their regulatory and data control requirements.

With this achievement, Capgemini sets a new standard in the industry for developing enterprise projects based on cloud and AI within environments that demand the highest levels of security, compliance, and digital autonomy.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alvarez, Chief Strategy and Development Officer and member of Capgemini Group’s Executive Committee, explained that “As organizations accelerate their adoption of AI, digital sovereignty has become a key requirement for resilience and long-term competitiveness. Being the first SAP partner to achieve this recognition demonstrates our leadership in this area. We possess the necessary capabilities to do so and are already implementing them, helping clients transform their critical systems into sovereign environments and scale AI across their entire operations, maintaining full control over their data and operations wherever needed.”

Building on its long-standing partnership with SAP, Capgemini develops sovereign transformations for clients in highly regulated sectors such as public sector, financial services, energy, and utilities. For example, Capgemini was recently selected by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as Migration Delivery Partner to support the modernization of its Enterprise Tax Management Platform (ETMP), a critical system for the UK. Capgemini will facilitate the migration of the platform to SAP S/4HANA and SAP Sovereign Cloud solutions in the UK, helping to ensure a secure, resilient, and compliant environment in line with UK public sector requirements. The platform, supporting over 50 tax regimes and processing more than £875 billion annually, will play a key role in serving millions of taxpayers and over 40,000 HMRC employees. This project is part of HMRC’s broader digital transformation, aimed at improving performance, strengthening resilience, and ensuring continuous delivery of critical services.

By combining Capgemini’s expertise in data management, migration, AI governance, and sovereign cloud operations with SAP Sovereign Cloud solutions, Capgemini empowers its clients to modernize critical systems and scale AI enterprise-wide to deliver tangible business results and measurable returns on their investments.
