Boston Dynamics Strengthens Alliance with NVIDIA to Drive Artificial Intelligence in Humanoid Robots

The American company Boston Dynamics, a global leader in mobile robotics, has announced the expansion of its collaboration with NVIDIA to develop the next generation of Artificial Intelligence capabilities in humanoid robots.

The robot Atlas, one of the company’s most advanced projects, now incorporates NVIDIA’s Jetson Thor computing platform. This compact, high-performance technology enables Atlas to run complex multimodal AI models that work in conjunction with the manipulation and full-body motion controllers developed by Boston Dynamics.

Additionally, the company and its research partners are making significant advancements in learned dexterity and locomotion policies by utilizing Isaac Lab, a modular open-source platform designed for robotic learning in physically accurate virtual environments, developed from NVIDIA Isaac Sim and NVIDIA Omniverse.

“Robots are the bridge between simulation and the real world,” said Aaron Saunders, Chief Technology Officer of Boston Dynamics. “With the current generation of our electric Atlas, we are building the world’s most advanced humanoid. Integrating Jetson Thor provides us with the highest available computing power, and thanks to Isaac Lab, we are developing cutting-edge AI capabilities with truly promising results.”

The collaboration between both companies also focuses on defining key aspects of functional safety, protection architectures, and the foundations for learning and computer vision systems that rely on NVIDIA’s training and simulation platforms.

In addition to the development of Atlas, Boston Dynamics continues to enhance the Artificial Intelligence capabilities of Spot, its well-known quadrupedal robot, and Orbit, its fleet management and data analytics software. The use of new reinforcement learning tools is improving locomotion control, and advanced AI models enable the robots to detect and avoid specific hazards in their environment.

Aaron Saunders will participate on Wednesday, March 19, at the NVIDIA GTC 2025 event, where he will join other industry leaders to discuss the current state and future of humanoid robotics.
