ASAC invests 1.3 million euros in expanding its Data Center, doubling its storage capacity.

SAC, the consultancy based in Asturias, has announced plans to expand its Data Center 1, located in the Asturias Technology Park, with an investment of 1.3 million euros. This initiative aims to double the computing and storage capacity of the company for Data Center services and significantly increase its energy power. The expansion, currently under construction and scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2024, will create five new jobs.

The project involves the installation of a new cube in Data Center 1, complementing the existing facilities. ASAC also operates a Data Center 2, supported by an optical fiber ring connected to the first, allowing for active-active geographic service delivery. Both facilities meet Tier III certification requirements, granted by the Uptime Institute, making ASAC the only certified provider offering Cloud services to third parties in northern Spain.

In the words of Marco Prieto, ASAC’s technical director: “With this new expansion, we aim to consolidate our position as leaders in the sector and continue contributing to the digital transformation of businesses and public administrations. Our focus is on sustainable growth, and the new cube will be equipped with Schneider Electric technology, a leader in innovation and efficiency in the market. This will enable us to achieve significant energy savings through water and air-based cooling systems, as well as uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and our own medium-voltage electrical transformation infrastructure”.

Schneider Electric’s StruxureWare for Data Centers management platform will be responsible for monitoring and responding in real-time to any incidents in the data center, as well as allowing for the simulation of failures to optimize infrastructure efficiency and resources.

The construction will take place without interruptions to the service and will include the installation of new electrical lines, air conditioning systems, fire detection and extinguishing systems, an electrical transformation center, cubicle cabinets, and redundant structured fiber optic cabling.

The architecture of the new installation will be modular, allowing for future expansions to meet ASAC’s growing needs, which already includes planning for a third cube in the near future.

ASAC’s Data Centers have high-level infrastructure and IT services certifications, including Tier III, National Security Scheme (ENS) in HIGH category, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, ISO 20000, and ISO 22301, ensuring the quality, security, and continuity of their services.
