AMD has unveiled AMD Embedded+, an innovative solution that combines AMD Ryzen™ Embedded processors with adaptable Versal™ SoCs into a single integrated board. This platform offers scalable, low-power solutions designed to accelerate time-to-market for original design manufacturers (ODMs). Validated by AMD, the Embedded+ solution is positioned as a key tool for reducing qualification and build times, allowing ODMs to streamline their go-to-market processes without incurring additional hardware and research and development (R&D) costs.
The Embedded+ architecture from AMD enables ODMs to leverage a common software platform to develop designs that require low power, small form factors, and extended lifecycles. These characteristics are essential for applications in sectors such as medical, industrial, and automotive. Chetan Khona, Senior Director of Industrial, Vision, Healthcare and Sciences Markets at AMD, emphasized the importance of processing sensor data with minimal latency to ensure deterministic responses in automated systems, especially in industrial and medical environments where decisions need to be made in milliseconds.
Embedded+ marks an industry milestone by first combining AMD’s x86 computational power with integrated graphics and programmable hardware, optimizing critical AI inference and sensor fusion applications. The solution stands out for its ability to perform deterministic, low-latency processing, as well as improving AI inference in terms of performance per watt thanks to the AI engines and Ryzen Embedded processors, which offer high-performance Radeon™ graphics and advanced rendering and visualization capabilities.
Sapphire Technology has been the first to unveil an ODM solution based on AMD’s Embedded+ architecture. The low-power Mini-ITX Sapphire Edge+ VPR-4616-MB motherboard is capable of delivering a full set of functionalities with just 30W of power consumption, incorporating the Ryzen Embedded R2314 processor and Versal AI Edge VE2302 Adaptive SoC. Adrian Thompson, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at Sapphire Technology, expressed excitement about working with a validated and reliable computing architecture that allows them to focus resources on strengthening other aspects of their products, thus reducing time-to-market and R&D costs.
The Embedded+ solution opens up new possibilities for system designers, who can now choose from an ecosystem of ODM board offerings based on this architecture, expanding their product portfolios to meet the specific needs of their customers. The Embedded+-certified VPR-4616-MB board from Sapphire Technology is now available for purchase, marking the beginning of a new era of innovation in AMD-powered critical applications.
