Amazon has closed the year 2023 with a workforce exceeding 25,000 people in Spain, fulfilling its commitment to job creation two years ahead of schedule. This achievement positions Amazon as the company that has generated the most jobs in the last five years in the country, with over 20,000 permanent jobs since 2018, and ranks it among the top ten largest private sector employers in Spain.
Diversity and Inclusion at Amazon
On the occasion of Cultural Diversity Day, celebrated on May 21, Amazon has highlighted its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The company’s workforce consists of more than 100 nationalities, and 40% of its employees are women, a figure higher than the average in the logistics sector in Spain. Additionally, Amazon actively supports the LGBTIQA+ community through various initiatives.
Quality Employment and Competitive Benefits
The over 25,000 Amazon employees span a wide range of ages, educational levels, and professional backgrounds, from individuals entering the workforce to those with decades of experience. Amazon offers competitive salaries, with an entry-level base salary of 19,500 euros gross annually for positions that do not require previous experience, and a benefits package valued at over 3,500 euros annually. This starting salary is nearly 45% higher than the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI) in Spain, including added benefits.
Expansion and New Opportunities
In 2023, Amazon inaugurated two new logistics centers in Zaragoza and Girona, and announced the upcoming opening of a logistics center in Siero (Asturias) and two delivery stations in Granada and A Coruña before the end of 2024. These new facilities will create over 1,500 jobs within a three-year timeframe, continuing the expansion of Amazon’s network in Spain, which already includes around 40 centers of various sizes throughout the country.
Local Impact and Economic Development
Amazon’s impact is not limited to major cities but also extends to smaller towns, generating a ripple effect in the economic and social development of these areas. In Illescas, Toledo, Amazon has created over 3,000 jobs since 2019, contributing to a 66% reduction in the unemployment rate and significantly decreasing youth unemployment.
Future Investments
Last month, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a 15.7 billion euro investment in Spain through the AWS Europe (Spain) Region, supporting the creation of 17,500 local jobs annually. These investments are estimated to contribute 21.6 billion euros to Spain’s GDP by 2033.
Commitment to Spain’s Growth
Amazon is proud to have reached 25,000 permanent employees in Spain, supporting the country’s growth and creating opportunities for both its employees and the communities in which it operates. With a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and economic development, Amazon continues to establish itself as a high-quality job engine in the Spanish economy.
