The report titled “Artificial Intelligence for Content Generation in Ibero-America: Editorial Experiences in Media” has recently been published, led by Communication doctors Alexis Apablaza-Campos and Jaime Wilches Tinjacá. This study, coordinated by DataFactory and edited by Politécnico Grancolombiano and Iniciativa Científica, brings together over 35 authors and showcases the experiences of AI usage in over a hundred media outlets in the region.
DataFactory: A Reference in Sports Content Production
With over two decades of experience in sports content production, DataFactory has established itself as a leader in data provision in the region. Their mission is to be a strategic ally for their clients, constantly researching market innovations to offer the best solutions.
In this context, during the second semester of 2023, DataFactory organized a series of webinars with four universities in the region, along with a fifth experience in November of the same year. These events brought together academics, researchers, university authorities, journalists, editors-in-chief, and industry leaders to discuss the use of emerging technologies in content production, with a special focus on generative artificial intelligence tools.
A Comprehensive Study on AI Usage in Media
The success of these webinars led to the decision to compile a written study that gathered the presentations and added the perspectives of experts from both academia and the media industry. This ambitious project was spearheaded by Alexis Apablaza-Campos from the University UNIACC in Chile, and Jaime Wilches Tinjacá from Politécnico Grancolombiano.
The study “Artificial Intelligence for Content Generation in Ibero-America: Editorial Experiences in Media” includes the following key points:
– Initial conceptualizations by experts from academia and industry.
– Summary of the webinar series held with four universities in the region.
– Results of a survey of over 150 attendees of the series.
– 15 regional perspectives from academics, researchers, and media executives, highlighting editorial experiences in AI usage in each country.
A Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Project
The report is the result of collaboration from over thirty entities, including universities, media outlets, and study centers in the region, with the participation of 35 authors from various backgrounds and the review of over 100 cases of AI usage in Ibero-American media. This work not only represents the most comprehensive analysis of AI usage in Spanish and Latin American media but also aims to be a reference material for academic research, the training of new professionals, and the journalism industry at large.
Study Presentation Event
On Thursday, June 6th, at 4:00 PM (Argentina time), the study presentation event will take place via Zoom. The session will be moderated by Guillermo González, editorial coordinator of Politécnico Grancolombiano, and will feature the editors of the work and the DataFactory team.
