Confluent has announced the appointment of Stephen Deasy as Chief Technology Officer. He will be responsible for leading the development and expansion of Confluent’s platform. His main goal will be to enhance the company’s data streaming platform, with the aim of powering more artificial intelligence and real-time intelligence.
His leadership will further strengthen Confluent’s core infrastructure, enabling any organization to more easily create and deploy real-time use cases such as agentic AI, hyper-personalized customer experiences, and automated operations.
“Stephen brings extensive experience in scaling engineering teams and building platforms that power some of the world’s most demanding systems,” says Jay Kreps, co-founder and CEO of Confluent. “With his leadership, we will move even faster to help customers turn data streams into a foundation for AI, smarter decision-making, and entirely new classes of real-time applications,” he adds.
Stephen has over 20 years of leadership experience in engineering at high-growth software companies. Most recently, he built the global product and platform teams at Benchling as the company’s CTO. At Atlassian, he led engineering for Jira, Confluence, Trello, and their cloud platform. He has also held leadership roles at VMware, EMC, and Groupon. A tech enthusiast, Stephen holds multiple patents and invests in early-stage tech companies.
