nLighten Strengthens Its Presence in Spain with a Focus on Sustainable and Local Edge Data Centers

The European company is redefining digital infrastructure with an urban network that prioritizes minimal latency, energy efficiency, and local connectivity.

After a year of operating in the country, nLighten, a European edge data center operator, consolidates its presence in Spain with an approach that breaks away from the traditional digital infrastructure model. Its proposal: local, sustainable, and ultra-connected data centers that bring processing closer to the end user, reducing latency and enhancing the performance of increasingly demanding digital services.

Founded in 2021 in Amsterdam and backed by Squared Capital, the company already manages 34 peripheral data centers in Europe and aims to reach 100 centers within the next three or four years. In Spain, nLighten began its expansion with the acquisition of its first center in Madrid and plans to extend its network to other strategic cities across the country.

“We don’t build traditional data centers. We build a new layer of city-integrated infrastructure that reduces environmental impact and meets current technological demands,” explained Christophe Thioux, nLighten’s Commercial Director.

Edge Computing for the New Digital Era

The increasing demand for real-time processing, driven by applications in IoT, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and streaming, calls for a new understanding of digital infrastructure. nLighten’s approach rests on three key pillars:

  • Close: Urban-based centers that process data near the end user, drastically reducing latency and improving time-sensitive service experiences.
  • Coupled: Facilities that focus on energy efficiency and sustainability by leveraging local resources such as renewable energy or residual heat reuse. The company also works with advanced metrics like ICFEn (Integrated Carbon-Free Energy) to transparently measure environmental impact.
  • Connected: A robust network offering high availability and secure connectivity through its nConnect platform, providing direct access to public clouds, operators, the internet, and other data centers.

Services for Today’s (and Tomorrow’s) Companies

Among the main services offered by nLighten in the Spanish market are:

  • Colocation: secure, scalable spaces for companies to host their IT infrastructure.
  • nConnect: a connectivity platform with solutions like Cloud Connect, IP Transit, Direct Internet Access, and DC Connect.
  • On-site Services: 24/7 technical support, remote monitoring, and management to ensure operational continuity.

Commitment to Digital Sustainability

nLighten aims not only to bring digital infrastructure closer to users but to do so responsibly. Its centers are designed to meet the European Union’s energy transition goals, combining high efficiency, low carbon footprint, and value return to the urban community.

“Spain is a digital economy with great potential within Europe and a key territory for deploying cutting-edge edge solutions,” Thioux concluded.

With this initiative, nLighten positions itself as one of the key players leading the future of European digital infrastructure from a local, clean, and connected perspective.
