Darktrace Acquires Mira Security to Strengthen Encrypted Traffic Visibility and Network Threat Detection

Darktrace, a global company specializing in artificial intelligence applied to cybersecurity, announced the acquisition of Mira Security, a leading provider of network traffic visibility solutions, with the goal of enhancing its ability to detect hidden threats in encrypted traffic.

The deal consolidates a prior collaboration between the two companies and will enable Darktrace to offer deeper and more comprehensive visibility into hybrid environments, on-premises, and cloud-based, without impacting network performance or requiring complex structural changes.

Cybersecurity in the Era of Massive Encryption

The volume of encrypted traffic on corporate networks continues to increase, making it increasingly difficult for cybersecurity systems to identify potential threats traveling undetected. Incorporating Mira Security, which specializes in high-performance online decryption, will allow Darktrace to close this visibility gap without compromising efficiency.

This integration will be especially significant for highly regulated sectors such as financial services, public administration, or critical infrastructure, where inspecting encrypted traffic is both an operational necessity and a regulatory requirement.

“This acquisition represents a key strategic step in our commitment to providing top-tier cybersecurity solutions, anticipating the most sophisticated threats,” said Phil Pearson, Chief Strategy Officer of Darktrace. “Mira Security’s technical expertise will be fundamental in developing the next generation of our networking technology.”

More Performance, More Visibility, More Innovation

The Mira Security engineering team, based in South Africa and the US, will join Darktrace’s R&D division, bringing expertise in high-performance software and network acceleration. Their knowledge will be crucial for designing new devices capable of handling interfaces up to 100 Gbps, enhancing data ingestion capacity, and better addressing the challenges of demanding environments.

Additionally, their work with international standards and network protocols will help reinforce Darktrace’s technological leadership in network detection and response (NDR), where it already leads according to Gartner, IDC, and KuppingerCole.

Continuity for Customers and Partners

Current Mira Security partners will continue to receive support and access to their solutions, ensuring a smooth transition and ongoing service. In the long term, clients of both companies will benefit from a more powerful joint offering, integrating advanced encrypted traffic analysis, AI for anomaly detection, and autonomous response to cyberattacks.

“Combining our technologies and joint R&D talent will better protect complex and highly dynamic network environments,” said Niel Viljoen, founder and CEO of Mira Security.

This acquisition follows the integration of Cado Security and the recent launch of new AI models by Darktrace, consolidating its growth strategy centered on continuous innovation.
