Canaragua inaugurates the largest water sector data center in the Canary Islands in Tenerife

The infrastructure located at ITER will enable water supply management across 17 municipalities, benefiting over 1.5 million people and connecting more than 100,000 devices in real time.

In the midst of the digitalization era and facing climate change challenges, Canaragua has made a significant leap toward smart water management in the Canary Islands. The company has inaugurated at the Tenerife Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER) the largest water sector data center in the archipelago. This strategic infrastructure centralizes the operational management of 17 municipalities, connecting over 100,000 devices in real time and directly benefiting more than 1.5 million Canary Islanders.

This data center not only represents a technological upgrade but also a crucial advance in sustainability, resilience, and efficiency. With more than 5 terabytes of operational data, Canaragua’s new infrastructure will enable continuous and predictive monitoring of the entire water cycle, from collection through treatment to final consumption.

A Critical Infrastructure for the Future of Water

Developed in partnership with Velorcios Group, this initiative aligns with Canaragua’s—and Veolia Group’s—commitment to the digital transformation of essential public services. Its technology division, Dinapsis Canarias, will be responsible for operating, evolving, and scaling this digital ecosystem in the coming years.

The data center will serve as a strategic control and analysis node, integrating information from sensors, valves, pumping stations, meters, and other key infrastructure in the water cycle. This will help improve operational efficiency, reduce losses, anticipate incidents, and ensure a more resilient water supply adapted to new climate challenges.
