The deal will accelerate the expansion of one of France’s few Tier IV data centers, specialized in critical workloads and clients with high regulatory sensitivity.
The investment fund Vesper Next Generation Infrastructure Fund has announced the acquisition of Thésée DataCenter, a French company specializing in Tier IV level data center services, aimed at clients with strict requirements regarding data sovereignty and security. The transaction, whose financial details have not been disclosed, marks the exit of current shareholders Banque des Territoires and Groupe IDEC Invest.
Based in the Paris region, Thésée currently operates two data centers with an operational capacity of 4.6 MW and has secured land for an additional approximately 33 MW of IT capacity. The main center, located in Aubergenville, 35 minutes from La Défense financial district, is certified as Tier IV, the highest availability rating according to the Uptime Institute, and has been designed to support high-performance loads (HPC) and artificial intelligence, including direct liquid cooling technology and a notable energy efficiency with a PUE of 1.2.
European response to digital sovereignty
Thésée stands out as one of the few French data centers offering 100% European critical infrastructure to clients with sensitive regulatory and privacy needs, such as financial services, cybersecurity firms, European cloud providers, and public administrations. The highly demand-driven Paris region market, with its structural land and power limitations, makes Thésée a strategic asset.
Antoine Fournier, CEO of Thésée, emphasized that this partnership with Vesper “will bring an industrial-minded partner with operational expertise to support the deployment of our growth strategy and create long-term value for clients and stakeholders.”
Vesper strengthens its commitment to digital infrastructure
Paola Rastelli, founder and partner at Vesper Infrastructure Partners, highlighted that “this deal reinforces our vision to support the development of critical infrastructures underpinning the European digital economy. We see strong demand for secure and sovereign storage, and Thésée is exceptionally well positioned to meet that demand.”
Vesper Infrastructure is a pan-European investment fund with offices in Milan, London, and Hamburg, focused on next-generation infrastructure: clean energy, decarbonized mobility, decentralized digital infrastructure, and sustainable living solutions. This acquisition enhances its portfolio in one of the sectors with the highest projected growth in the coming years.
Security, efficiency, and sustainable expansion
Thésée offers Tier IV certified housing services under ISO 27001 standards, including bunker-type centers with video surveillance, biometric control, multiple physical access levels, and advanced fire detection systems. Its facilities utilize adiabatic cooling and indirect free cooling technologies, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
The company plans to start constructing new modules at its Aubergenville center soon, aiming to increase its total capacity to 33 MW. With this investment, it seeks to meet the growing demand for sovereign data storage in one of Europe’s most demanding and regulated markets.
Growth of critical infrastructure in France
The rise of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and European data protection regulations are fueling the growth of high-level digital infrastructures. Vesper’s acquisition of Thésée adds to a wave of strategic moves aiming to strengthen European technological autonomy, with investments in local data centers that meet the highest standards in security, energy efficiency, and resilience.
France, along with Germany and the Netherlands, leads the continent’s push for sovereign digital infrastructures, with Paris being one of the regions with the highest concentration of Tier III and Tier IV projects.
