ExaGrid Announces Compatibility with Rubrik and Promises to Reduce Costs and Improve Disaster Recovery

ExaGrid, a company specializing in backup storage, has announced that its tiered backup storage solutions are now compatible with the enterprise backup software Rubrik. This integration opens new possibilities for cost savings, performance, and security in hybrid backup environments.

According to the official release, ExaGrid appliances can be used as storage targets for Rubrik’s Archive Tier environments, including the Instant Archive feature, offering a more economical and efficient alternative to traditional on-premise or cloud storage.

Smart and resilient storage

The value proposition is based on ExaGrid’s unique architecture, which divides its systems into two levels:

  • A disk-based Landing Zone cache that enables ultra-fast backups and restores.
  • An offline Repository Tier not connected to the network, creating a logical air gap and providing ransomware protection through features like delayed deletion and immutable objects.

This combination allows organizations to store long-term data more affordably and with quicker access than solutions solely based on the cloud.

“Rubrik is a robust and feature-rich platform. By integrating with their environment, we significantly improve storage economics, achieving additional data reduction ratios of 3:1 to 10:1 thanks to our deduplication, complementing Rubrik’s native compression and encryption,” explained Bill Andrews, President and CEO of ExaGrid. “Together, the combined ratios can reach between 6:1 and 20:1 depending on data type and retention.”

Key benefits of ExaGrid + Rubrik integration

  • Significant reduction in both local and remote storage costs
  • Less WAN bandwidth usage to the disaster recovery (DR) site
  • Faster recovery from the local data center compared to cloud solutions
  • Enhanced anti-ransomware protection with immutable and offline storage
  • Native integration with over 25 leading backup applications, in addition to Rubrik

In Rubrik environments, organizations typically retain a few weeks of local data, with the rest stored in the cloud. ExaGrid proposes breaking this pattern to avoid rising costs and to improve restore experiences for IT teams.

Beyond backup: operational efficiency

ExaGrid’s solution also stands out for its scale-out architecture, which allows adding complete appliances without sacrificing performance, ensuring fixed-length backup windows even as data volumes grow. This eliminates the need for disruptive upgrades or forced hardware replacements, a common challenge with other solutions.

Operating in more than 30 countries—including Spain, Brazil, Mexico, and across Europe—ExaGrid continues to expand its channel partner network to provide more cost-effective alternatives for organizations seeking a resilient, fast, and secure backup strategy without relying exclusively on cloud storage.
