Accident at TSMC Plant Construction in Phoenix Leaves Worker in Critical Condition

A construction worker remains hospitalized in serious condition after suffering an accident on Monday at the industrial complex that TSMC is building in northern Phoenix. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM when emergency crews from the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a distress call from the site.

The worker, whose identity has not been revealed, was immediately attended to on-site by emergency services, who confirmed he sustained significant “bone fractures.” He was then rushed to a nearby hospital. According to TSMC’s official statement, the worker “was treated at the incident site and quickly transported to the hospital for further medical care. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.”

The Taiwanese company, a global leader in advanced chip manufacturing, also emphasized its commitment to safety:

“The safety and well-being of everyone working at our facilities is our top priority. We are in contact with our contractors and are reviewing what occurred internally.”

So far, the causes of the accident and the exact circumstances surrounding it have not been detailed. It is unclear whether the worker fell from a height, was struck by machinery, or if there was any structural or human failure. It has also not been confirmed whether the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH), responsible for investigating workplace incidents, has already launched a formal inquiry.

This latest workplace accident reignites the debate over safety conditions in large industrial projects such as TSMC’s, whose plant in Phoenix has become a symbol of the U.S. effort to strengthen its semiconductor supply chain. The project, valued at over $40 billion and deemed strategic by the federal government, has mobilized significant resources, specialized labor, and raised expectations about the future of the tech industry in the country.

But behind the headlines and announcements, there are also human stories. The case of this injured worker—and many others who operate daily under demanding conditions—serves as a reminder that the construction of these hubs of global technology is not without risks.

As the project moves into its next phase, it remains to be seen whether local authorities and TSMC will strengthen safety measures and hold accountable for what happened. For now, the investigation remains open, and the immediate priority is the recovery of the affected worker.
