Castilla-La Mancha Renewed Its Commitment to Data Economy by Remaining on the Board of GAIA-X Spain

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has once again been confirmed as a member of the board of GAIA-X Spain, consolidating its role as the only regional public administration at the executive level of this strategic association that leads the promotion of data spaces at the national level. The renewal of the board was ratified a few days ago by the assembly of partners of GAIA-X Spain.

According to Christian Cobas, director of the Data Office of the regional government, this continuity signifies a clear indication of the Junta’s commitment to the development of the data economy in the region. “We renew our commitment to a public vision focused on collaboration and the promotion of a secure, interoperable, and sovereign data-sharing ecosystem,” Cobas stated.

Talavera de la Reina, National Data Epicenter

Talavera de la Reina continues to be a nerve center for the digital ecosystem in Spain, hosting the headquarters of GAIA-X Spain. From this location, the region is projecting a strategy that seeks to align the interests of public administration with the needs of the business and technology sectors, contributing to the consolidation of a strong, competitive digital environment aligned with European policies on digital sovereignty and the data economy.

An Example of Public-Private Collaboration

GAIA-X Spain has positioned itself as a national reference in the construction of open and reliable data spaces, promoting public-private collaboration. The institutional support from entities such as the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, through the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA), has been key to consolidating initiatives like the Data Space Boost Plan, framed within the Spain Digital Strategy 2026.

Thanks to this push, various entities from Castilla-La Mancha have obtained nearly 3.5 million euros in the latest call for aid for the development of data spaces, participating in three strategic projects that reinforce the region’s position as a hub of innovation and digital transformation.

Diverse and Multisectoral Representation

The new board of GAIA-X Spain consists of a diverse group of organizations representing the technological, academic, business, and social ecosystem. Alongside Castilla-La Mancha, entities such as AMETIC, the Big Data & AI Cluster of Madrid, IndesIA, ITI, TECNALIA, CTIC, Grupo Aire (which includes companies like Stackscale and Teradisk), Inetum, Telefónica, T-Systems, AnySolution, Libelium, Acuratio, Tinámica, Alisys, i4life, ZERTIFIER®, Cloud Global, the Spanish Red Cross, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, i2CAT, and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia are represented.

Looking Toward the European Digital Future

The work of GAIA-X Spain is developed with a clear European orientation, aligning with the principles of the original GAIA-X project promoted by Germany and France, and is part of the key infrastructure for the future digital economy based on data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing under European sovereignty.

Castilla-La Mancha’s support for this initiative reinforces the active role that regions can play in building a European data model that respects privacy, ensures security, and promotes economic development from a decentralized and collaborative perspective.
