QNAP Launches the TDS-h2489FU R2: Its Flagship All-Flash NAS for High-Performance Enterprise Workloads

The new QNAP rack storage solution with a dual Xeon processor and 100GbE connectivity offers up to 1 million IOPS and petabyte scalability for critical environments such as AI, HPC, and virtualization.

QNAP® Systems, Inc. has unveiled its latest technological gem for high-performance enterprise environments: the TDS-h2489FU R2, an all-flash NAS system with 24 bays supporting NVMe U.2 drives, dual Intel® Xeon® processors, and a range of features designed for data centers, advanced virtualization, AI model training, VDI, and data-intensive storage.

With an architecture built from the ground up to handle massive workloads and demanding multitasking, the TDS-h2489FU R2 stands out as one of the most powerful storage solutions on the market. According to Alex Shih, QNAP’s product manager, “companies need more than speed: they require stability and efficiency to accelerate innovation. Our new NAS meets those challenges with a robust and highly scalable design.”

Computing Power and All-Flash Efficiency

The TDS-h2489FU R2 integrates two Intel® Xeon® Silver 4300 series processors, with options of up to 32 cores and up to 1 TB of DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory, ensuring smooth processing even in the most demanding applications. The system is equipped with sixteen NVMe U.2 slots and an additional eight hybrid slots (SATA/NVMe), achieving up to 1,000,000 IOPS in 4K random read.

Connectivity and Scalability Without Bottlenecks

For environments that require extreme bandwidth, QNAP has incorporated four 2.5GbE RJ45 ports and two pre-installed 25GbE SFP28 ports with support for iSER and SR-IOV. This architecture accelerates data transfers in VMware® ESXi environments and ensures stable, continuous performance.

Furthermore, with its four PCIe Gen 4 slots, the system allows for the installation of 100GbE network cards, storage expansion, M.2 SSDs, or even fiber channel, adapting to each organization’s varying requirements.

Petabyte-Scale Storage and Intelligent Management

Storage capacity is another strong point of the TDS-h2489FU R2. The system can be expanded to connect:

  • 10 PCIe JBODs TL-R2400PES-RP, adding up to 240 additional drives, or
  • 16 SAS JBODs TL-R1620Sep-RP, reaching a total of 256 additional drives.

The NAS also includes two M.2 NVMe Gen3 x4 slots for SSD cache or system storage, enhancing the overall efficiency of the system. All of this runs on the QuTS hero operating system, based on ZFS, which provides immutable storage, advanced compression, deduplication, and optimization for SSDs.

Redundancy and Operational Continuity

The TDS-h2489FU R2 features redundant power supplies, an essential component in environments where data availability cannot tolerate interruptions. This redundancy ensures continuous operation in the event of potential hardware failures.

Available Models

QNAP offers several configurations of the TDS-h2489FU R2 to fit the needs of each business:
