Eurecat Drives Quantum Computing in Companies for the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

In a key year for the advancement of quantum technology, the technology center Eurecat has created a multidisciplinary team that combines quantum physics, artificial intelligence, and software development to help companies harness the potential of quantum computing. This emerging technology is expected to have a global economic impact that will exceed one trillion euros in the next ten years.

The 2025 Technology Trends Report by ACCIÓ, the Agency for Business Competitiveness of the Generalitat de Catalunya, identifies quantum computing as one of the key technologies that will mark the year and highlights Eurecat as a relevant player in the quantum innovation ecosystem in Catalonia.

Quantum Solutions for Industry

Eurecat offers quantum software solutions designed to help researchers, engineers, and companies tackle high-complexity problems that traditional computing has not been able to solve. According to Adan Garriga, lead researcher of the Quantum Computing Research Line at Eurecat, quantum innovation will have a disruptive impact on sectors such as:

  • Medicine, facilitating the development of new drugs and personalized therapies.
  • Chemical Industry, accelerating the creation of new materials.
  • Finance, improving portfolio optimization and risk analysis.
  • Cybersecurity, providing advanced encryption methods.
  • Logistics and Energy, optimizing resources and processes.

The launch of this specialized team coincides with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, designated by UNESCO, aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of quantum science and its applications in society.

Participation in Strategic Projects

Eurecat has played a key role in the Quantum Strategy of Catalonia and has collaborated on important technological projects such as:

  • AI4ES, the center of excellence in enabling technologies based on data.
  • Cervera ARQA Network, an alliance of technology centers focused on quantum computing applications for industry.

Specifically, the ARQA Network is developing a technological roadmap to solve complex practical problems through quantum computing, evaluating its viability and efficiency in both the Spanish and international productive fabric.

Consulting and Quantum Software Development

According to Lali Soler, director of the Digital Area at Eurecat, the organization has expertise in quantum machine learning, quantum optimization, and cybersecurity, and also offers quantum software development and specialized consulting for the implementation of these technologies in companies.

“Our goal is to make quantum computing accessible to companies and strategic sectors, enabling its gradual adoption to generate a real competitive advantage,” Soler emphasizes.
