Telefónica and Vodafone Launch Fiberpass, Their Joint Fiber Optic Company

Telefónica Spain and Vodafone Spain have taken another step forward in their collaboration agreement with the launch of Fiberpass, the commercial brand for their new joint venture providing fiber optic services (FiberCo). This project, announced in November 2024, aims to optimize the use of existing infrastructures and improve the operational efficiency of both companies.

A Key Step in Fiber Expansion in Spain

Fiberpass will manage a network of approximately 3.6 million premises with FTTH technology (fiber to the home). Thanks to this partnership, the operators will be able to share resources, reduce costs, and expand their coverage more efficiently, ensuring access to state-of-the-art networks for a larger number of customers in Spain.

The chosen slogan for the new company, “Sharing the Future Together”, reflects the strategic vision of both companies to drive more advanced and accessible connectivity through collaboration.

Pablo Ledesma to Lead Fiberpass

As part of the announcement, it has been confirmed that Pablo Ledesma will take on the role of CEO of Fiberpass. Ledesma, who has worked for over 25 years at Telefónica, has served as the operations director for Telefónica Spain for the last seven years. His experience in the sector will be crucial in leading this new venture and consolidating its position in the fiber market.

Awaiting Regulatory Approvals

The launch of Fiberpass is still subject to the necessary regulatory approvals for its operation. The Council of Ministers has already authorized Vodafone’s foreign investment participation in the joint venture, while the remaining permits are expected to be approved in the coming weeks.

With this initiative, Telefónica and Vodafone strengthen their commitment to a strategy of collaboration in infrastructures, a trend that is becoming increasingly common in the telecommunications sector to enhance profitability and efficiency in deploying high-speed networks.
