The Ministry of Industry and Tourism announced today the opening of the application period for the second call of the PERTE Chip, an initiative aimed at boosting microelectronics and semiconductor projects in Spain. This new call, which will be open until January 31, 2025, has a budget of 110 million euros.
Two Sections to Boost the Industry
The second call of the PERTE Chip is divided into two distinct sections:
- Important Projects of European Common Interest (IPCEI):
With a budget of 90 million euros, this section is aimed at projects that contribute to the strategic strengthening of the European Union in the field of microelectronics. - National Microelectronics Projects:
With a budget of 20 million euros, this line will fund more specific initiatives within the semiconductor value chain in Spain. It is this last section that opens its application period today.
Progress from the First Call
In the first call of the PERTE Chip, 65.4 million euros were awarded to projects aimed at strengthening national capacities in the design and production of microelectronics. With this second edition, the government seeks to consolidate previous achievements and advance its goal of making Spain a key player in the semiconductor sector.
Strategic Objective of PERTE Chip
The PERTE Chip is part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan and aims to increase the strategic autonomy of Spain and the European Union in a sector considered crucial for the economy and technological security. This effort seeks to position Spain as a benchmark in the design and manufacturing of semiconductors, enhancing the country’s competitiveness in a highly competitive global market.
Application Deadline and Process
Interested companies have until January 31, 2025, to submit their proposals through the platform set up by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. This call is expected to attract both tech startups and large companies in the sector interested in contributing to the development of a strategic industry for Spain’s economic future.
With this new call, the government reaffirms its commitment to strengthening key sectors in advanced technology, ensuring access to funding for innovative projects in a critical area for the global economy.
