Economic and Social Impact
Since 2010, Amazon has invested $18.5 billion in Georgia, generating an impact of $20.1 billion on the state’s Gross Domestic Product. The new AWS investment promises to generate at least 550 direct jobs in technical roles such as data center engineers, network specialists, and operations managers. Additionally, the construction and operation of these facilities are expected to drive thousands of indirect jobs in the supply chain and construction sectors.
AWS’s commitment to the community extends beyond employment. The company has collaborated with local organizations to respond to natural disasters, using its technology and logistics to deliver over 2.3 million essential items in times of crisis. Furthermore, AWS has invested in sustainable projects, including eight solar farms in the state, such as Bulldog Solar, which will generate enough energy to power 123,000 homes annually.
Education and Training for the Future
As part of its commitment to the community, AWS has launched educational and training programs in Georgia. One of these is the Fiber Optic Splicing Workshop, conducted in collaboration with Augusta Technical College, where participants obtain certifications in advanced splicing techniques and connect with employers in the broadband sector.
Additionally, AWS plans to implement STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education initiatives in the state. These include the Girls’ Tech Day program, designed to inspire girls to pursue technology careers, and interactive Think Big spaces where students can experiment with cutting-edge technologies.
