Meta Signs Long-Term Agreement with Longroad Energy for 300 MW Solar Project in Texas

The ‘1000 Mile’ project becomes the largest solar installation developed by Longroad Energy and reinforces Meta’s commitment to renewable energy.

Meta and Longroad Energy have announced a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the ‘1000 Mile’ solar project, a 300 MWac (400 MWdc) plant located in Yoakum County, Texas. This agreement ensures that all the energy generated at the facility will be used to support Meta’s data center operations in the region.

One step closer to sustainability

Urvi Parekh, head of energy at Meta, highlighted the importance of this collaboration:
“The renewable energy from this project will support our data center operations and our ongoing efforts to match our electricity consumption with 100% clean and renewable energy.”

Longroad Energy CEO Paul Gaynor added:
“We are proud that ‘1000 Mile,’ our largest solar project to date, will help Meta achieve its sustainability goals. This project brings our collaboration to over 1.3 GW of jointly developed projects.”

Details of the ‘1000 Mile’ project

The ‘1000 Mile’ solar plant, which is set to begin commercial operations in 2026, will connect to the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) energy grid, which services much of the central United States, including North Texas. This is Longroad’s first project within the SPP footprint in Texas, where it previously developed six wind and solar facilities.

The agreement is part of a broader strategy by Meta to power its global operations with clean energy. In 2024, Meta signed renewable energy agreements in Texas, Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, and Louisiana, securing more than 1.2 GW of contracted power.

Meta and Longroad: a solid relationship

The ‘1000 Mile’ project is not the first agreement between Meta and Longroad. In 2019, Meta invested $416 million in Longroad’s Prospero Solar project, a 379 MW plant in Andrews County, Texas, which began operations in 2020. This new agreement strengthens a collaborative relationship that has been key to the development of clean energy in the United States.

Meta: Leadership in renewable energy

With this new project, Meta reaffirms its commitment to using renewable energy across all its operations. The company already has two operational data centers in Texas, located in Fort Worth and Temple, which will directly benefit from the energy supply from ‘1000 Mile.’ Furthermore, the company continues to lead the transition to a more sustainable energy model, not only in Texas but across the country.

The agreement with Longroad Energy solidifies both companies as key players in the transition to clean energy, supporting both technological infrastructure and the growth of renewable energies in the United States.
