BBVA, one of the leading banks globally, has successfully completed the migration of its data platform to the cloud in Europe and Uruguay, utilizing the advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) services from Amazon Web Services (AWS). This achievement positions the bank as one of the pioneers in adopting this technology in the financial sector.
The ADA Platform: Transformation through Data
The Analytics, Data, AI (ADA) platform from BBVA is at the core of this transformation, designed to optimize internal processes, manage risk models, and promote the global growth of the entity. ADA provides real-time insights, reducing the access time to analytics by 94% and allowing for a more efficient and personalized experience for both clients and the bank’s internal operations.
With the success achieved in Europe and Uruguay, BBVA is preparing to expand this migration in 2025 to its operating countries in Latin America, such as Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina.
Key Advantages of ADA
- Storage Efficiency and Flexibility: ADA allows for more efficient data storage and adapts to the bank’s exponential growth.
- Dynamic Scalability: The platform automatically adjusts resources based on demand, optimizing costs and performance.
- Advanced Security: It offers a secure repository for customer and operational data, complying with regulatory standards.
- Improvements in Innovation: ADA enables faster product deployment, greater service customization, and real-time utilization of AI.
A Technical Challenge Successfully Overcome
The migration process involved transferring tens of thousands of processes and users to the cloud without any service interruptions. According to Marta Sanz, Global Director of Data Engineering at BBVA, “with this consolidated migration, we are ready to incorporate technological innovations from AWS, such as real-time data processing and unstructured data management, maximizing the potential of artificial intelligence in our solutions.”
Carlos Casas, Global Director of Engineering at BBVA, added: “This milestone underscores our commitment to technological innovation and places us at the forefront of digital transformation in global banking.”
A Joint Effort with Strategic Partners
The development of ADA has involved multiple areas within BBVA, including architecture, data engineering, and business units in Spain and Uruguay. AWS and Accenture have been key partners in the project, providing their expertise to overcome technical challenges and ensure the success of the migration.
A Model for the Future of the Financial Sector
With ADA, BBVA is not only modernizing its infrastructure but also setting a precedent in the adoption of cloud technology within the banking sector. Scott Mullins, General Manager of AWS Financial Services, emphasized: “ADA is a pioneering project that demonstrates BBVA’s ability to lead in advanced technology, transforming internal processes and attracting technological talent.”
Toward Global Growth with Cutting-Edge Technology
BBVA continues to advance its commitment to using technology and data to enhance the experience of its customers and solidify its position as a leader in innovation within the financial sector. The expansion of ADA to Latin America in 2025 will be another step toward consolidating a global cloud-based model that will allow the bank to adapt to a dynamic environment and meet the real-time needs of its customers.
