Proofpoint Named a Leader in the 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Email Security Platforms

The company Proofpoint has been recognized as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant 2024 for Email Security Platforms. This recognition marks the reactivation of the report, which had not been published since 2015, the year in which Proofpoint was named a leader for the seventh consecutive time.

In its 2024 edition, Gartner evaluated 14 providers, highlighting Proofpoint as a leader for its outstanding ability to execute and strong strategic vision.

“We believe that Gartner’s assessment further validates our strategy of offering advanced threat detection capabilities, which are industry-leading, to protect against all types of human-centered threats and all the ways a user could encounter them,” said Darren Lee, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Security Products and Services Group. “We believe this recognition is reinforced by our investment in rapid innovation, which helps address today’s real email security challenges, while leveraging customer insights and market trends to uncover tomorrow’s challenges.”

Email continues to be the primary vector used by cybercriminals to attack employees and infiltrate organizations. What makes cyberattacks such as Business Email Compromise (BEC), credential phishing, and account takeovers so successful is the effectiveness with which they target individuals through a personalized and multi-faceted approach. To stop these modern attacks, organizations need a defense-in-depth approach rather than siloed email security tools.

Proofpoint’s Threat Protection aims to set the standard for how organizations approach human risk, leveraging two key elements of its proprietary platform: Proofpoint Nexus, a multi-layered set of AI, behavior, and threat detection that identifies and prevents advanced email-borne threats; and Proofpoint Zen, a set of checkpoint technologies that provide comprehensive protection across email, collaboration applications, and the cloud. Together, they provide a cohesive experience that delivers human-centric protection to both end users and security professionals, stopping 99.99% of all email threats before they reach inboxes.

In the past year, Proofpoint has introduced several innovative features, including:

  • LLM-based Pre-Delivery Detection: We believe Proofpoint has the first and only pre-delivery threat detection engine in the industry that uses semantic analysis to understand the intent of the message, powered by a large language model (LLM) to stop advanced email threats such as email fraud, credential harvesting, and social engineering attacks before they can be delivered to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace inboxes.
  • Continual URL-based Threat Protection: Proofpoint’s pre-delivery detection identifies and blocks attacks before they reach user inboxes, eliminating the possibility of a user triggering them. Suspicious messages with URLs are held for sandbox analysis, and delivered messages are continuously monitored for links that may change or become malicious over time.
  • Adaptive Email Security: An Integrated Cloud Email Security (ICES) solution that offers an additional layer of AI-based behavioral detection to stop specific threats such as lateral internal phishing and advanced email fraud for high-risk employees. It enriches detections with easy-to-understand explanations of behavioral anomalies and automatically quarantines high-confidence threats while providing real-time guidance to alert users to risks that do not contain an obvious malicious payload.
  • Proofpoint Collab Protection: Extends phishing protection beyond email to guard against malicious URLs delivered through any messaging, collaboration, or social media applications. With Proofpoint’s threat intelligence, it provides real-time URL reputation inspection and blocks malicious URLs upon clicking.
  • Adaptive Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for Email: Automatically detects and prevents accidental and intentional data loss via email before it can become a costly error for organizations. By combining Proofpoint’s threat protection and data loss prevention technology and intelligence with dynamic, AI-based behavioral detection, it fills a gap in DLP strategies, stopping misdirected emails to avoid potential reputational damage, customer loss, and regulatory fines.
