Silicon Cloud & Security Leaders Day: Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity at the Heart of Business Transformation

The Silicon Cloud & Security Leaders Day, organized by Silicon Spain and NetMedia Europe, brought together leading experts in technology and cybersecurity to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the cloud for corporate security. The event, hosted by Daniel de Blas, Head of Branded Content at NetMedia International, explored how organizations can innovate safely and optimize their operations in an increasingly digital and automated environment.

Artificial Intelligence: A Double-Edged Sword for Cybersecurity

Álvaro Verdeja, COO of Making Science, opened the event by analyzing how AI serves as both a protective tool and a challenge for business security. “We use AI to manage alerts and prevent threats, among other functionalities,” Verdeja explained. He also urged companies to embrace this technology as a defense against cyberattacks, emphasizing that the use of AI by cybercriminals makes it essential for companies to understand and leverage it as well.

Automation and AI: Essential for Proactive Cybersecurity

Francisco Dalmau, Channel Account Manager at Google Cloud Security, highlighted the importance of cybersecurity that is not only prepared for an attack but is ready to respond. “Cybersecurity is an investment, not an expense,” he asserted. He explained that the future of security involves automation in the cloud and AI, technologies that facilitate constant and adaptive protection.

Daniel Liberal, Field CTO of Wiz, added that 36% of companies in Spain already use AI, although only 10% do so at an advanced level. This growing adoption introduces risks and the need for solutions that monitor what data is shared and how it is managed to comply with regulations such as GDPR.

Visibility and Managed Security: The Role of Bitdefender and AWS

Visibility in infrastructure is essential for security, as emphasized by Raúl Benito Álvarez, Territory Account Manager at Bitdefender. He stressed that the best protection begins in the design of systems, and that Bitdefender enables monitoring of all types of devices on the network, “even a surveillance camera.” Nuria Gálvez, Sales Engineer at Bitdefender, emphasized the importance of having tools that quickly identify what has been affected in the event of an attack, allowing for immediate action.

On his part, Tomás Clemente, Principal Security Solutions Architect at AWS, pointed out that the digital future is built on three pillars: innovation, cybersecurity, and the public cloud. “The cloud democratizes technology and allows for accelerated innovation, but with a model of shared responsibility between the user and the provider,” he stated. Clemente also mentioned quantum computing as an emerging technology that could transform security standards.

The Challenge of Quantum Computing and the Role of Crypto-Agility

Miguel Ángel Fañanás Martínez, Vice President for Southern Europe at DigiCert, explained how quantum computing will change the rules of the game in cybersecurity. This technology could decrypt current encryption algorithms, making it imperative for companies to start adopting crypto-agility. “It is crucial for organizations to manage their digital certificates in an automated way to be prepared for this transition,” he added.

Prevention and Preparedness Against Attacks: Sophos’s Perspective

Alberto Ruíz Rodas, Presales Engineer at Sophos, presented data on the impact of ransomware on companies. On average, 49% of an organization’s systems are affected in an attack, and attackers increasingly target backup systems, extending recovery times. To tackle these challenges, he recommended a comprehensive strategy for prevention, detection, and response, supported by a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service that allows for rapid action.

AI and Cybersecurity in Business Practice

The final roundtable included experts such as Jesús Valverde, IT Director & CISO at ISEMAREN, who highlighted regulation as a support for cybersecurity and how AI can enhance productivity without replacing employees. Manuel Rodríguez, Technology Director at Agroseguro, warned about the risks of vendor lock-in in the cloud and hidden costs. Marcel Velica, Senior Security Program Manager at Eventbrite, emphasized the importance of training employees in cybersecurity to avoid incidents, which are caused by users 80% of the time.

A Future Dominated by AI and Quantum Computing

The Silicon Cloud & Security Leaders Day clearly demonstrated that we are in a phase of deep transformation, driven by AI and quantum computing. Learning to adapt to these technologies and harness their potential will be key for companies that wish to remain competitive and secure in the new digital landscape.
