Angola Cables expands its presence in Europe with the launch of TelCables Europe and a new PoP in Portugal

Angola Cables has announced the launch of its new European subsidiary, TelCables Europe, with the aim of bringing advanced digital solutions to customers across Europe and the Mediterranean. This expansion, announced at the Capacity Europe 2024 event, marks a significant milestone in the company’s international growth strategy.

TelCables Europe will offer a wide range of services, including peering, cloud solutions, and interconnectivity services, all backed by Angola Cables’ global infrastructure. As part of this launch, the company has established a new Point of Presence (PoP) at the Start Campus data center in Sines, Portugal, one of the largest and most sustainable technological infrastructures in Europe.

Connecting Africa, Europe, and the world

Angola Cables CEO, Ângelo Gama, emphasized that the creation of TelCables Europe is a key step in strengthening the company’s international network. “As the most interconnected network operator in Africa, we believe we can play a dynamic role in strengthening connectivity and partnerships between Africa, Europe, and the rest of the world. Our mission is to connect not only the Lusophone world, but also to bring continents and countries closer through more efficient, flexible, and secure digital connectivity options,” Gama stated.

Angola Cables is already recognized for providing low-latency connections and IP transit services between Europe, the United States, and South America, thanks to its collaboration with the EllaLink submarine cable. This cable system has been crucial in enhancing the speed and data transmission capacity across the Atlantic.

Expansion into the European market

The new PoP in Sines is part of a broader expansion strategy in Europe. The location of the data center in Portugal offers a strategic advantage as it is connected to the EllaLink cable, as well as the Monet and SACS submarine cables, which enable data transport between Europe, the United States, South America, and Africa.

Samuel Carvalho, Angola Cables’ marketing director, explained the importance of this new Point of Presence: “Having a presence in Europe, and specifically in Sines, is a strategic decision that allows us to leverage our connections with EllaLink and our Monet and SACS cables. This puts us in an ideal position to offer our customers fast and secure access to major international markets.”

Sines, a strategic hub for global connectivity

The Sines data center, operated by Start Campus, has become a key infrastructure in Europe for its sustainability and neutrality towards operators. This center hosts multiple network service providers and is designed to ensure robust and high-performance connectivity. The addition of Angola Cables and TelCables Europe further expands connectivity options for the center’s customers.

Robert Dunn, Start Campus CEO, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership: “The addition of Angola Cables and TelCables Europe to our list of network service providers significantly increases connectivity options for customers using our facilities in Sines. This is especially important for those seeking direct connections to Brazil, Africa, and other global markets.”

Future outlook

Angola Cables remains committed to the development of cutting-edge digital infrastructure. According to the company’s projections, by 2026, the 22 submarine cables landing in Portugal will be connected to 124 landing stations worldwide, establishing direct connections with 75 countries across five continents. This expansion will further strengthen Portugal’s position as a key node in global telecommunications networks.

The launch of TelCables Europe and the new PoP in Sines underscore Angola Cables’ ambition to continue growing and offering innovative technological solutions globally, consolidating its role as a key player in connectivity between continents.
