ESpanix opens a new access point in Barcelona, strengthening its expansion in southern Europe.

The interconnection provider ESpanix has taken a significant step in its growth strategy with the opening of a new point of presence (POP) at the Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Barcelona, owned by AFR-IX telecom. This agreement will allow companies and operators in the Catalan capital to connect to ESpanix services, with special attention to its Neutral Node, without the need to travel to Madrid.

The new POP, announced this month, marks a milestone in ESpanix’s expansion, which in April 2024 launched its ESpanix Reach service, facilitating access to its infrastructure from the main European data centers. Now, with the extension of its neutral node to Barcelona, Catalan companies will have the opportunity to access the country’s largest concentration of networks, significantly reducing transport costs between Madrid and Barcelona.

For companies that were already connecting from Catalonia to the ESpanix node in Madrid, this new option offers the advantage of being able to link directly from CLS facilities. At the same time, Cable Landing Station customers will be able to enjoy a direct connection to the country’s widest and most advanced interconnection services without the need to establish an additional link to the Spanish capital.

This agreement is particularly attractive for local operators and companies in Catalonia, who will benefit from greater efficiency and lower costs in managing their networks. The new POP in Barcelona strengthens ESpanix’s presence in southern Europe and underlines its commitment to becoming the most relevant digital hub in the region.

The initiative also contributes to improving the connectivity and latency of the networks that make up the Internet, a key aspect for companies that depend on a robust and agile digital infrastructure. With this move, ESpanix strengthens its position as a key player in the digital interconnection landscape in Europe, offering its clients greater flexibility and better opportunities to optimize their networks.

According to the leaders of ESpanix, this new point of access not only meets the growing demand for connectivity in the region, but is also part of their long-term vision to consolidate their leadership in the neutral interconnection market in Europe.
