BT, the British telecommunications giant, has announced a major breakthrough today in its innovative Network as a Service (NaaS) platform, called Global Fabric. The company has revealed that the system is already operational and has been in live testing for the past two months, with the official launch of the first services scheduled for early 2025.
A new era in enterprise connectivity
Global Fabric promises to transform the way businesses connect to the cloud and manage their digital resources. This platform is designed to facilitate and streamline the secure connection of employees, customers, and devices to applications and digital services hosted in multiple clouds, including artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
Key benefits for customers
- Improved connectivity: Users will enjoy scalable, secure, high-capacity, and resilient connectivity.
- AI readiness: The platform is designed to meet the growing and complex demands of the most advanced AI technologies.
- Unprecedented flexibility: Unlike traditional networks, where changes can take weeks, Global Fabric allows for instant modifications.
Global expansion and accessibility
BT has taken a significant step in the implementation of Global Fabric by installing “points of presence” (PoPA Point of Presence (PoP) in a data center is a node …) in over 45 of the world’s major cloud data centers. The company plans to increase this number to 140, offering customers a wide range of locations from which to access Global Fabric services.
For customers who do not yet have network connections to the data centers housing Global Fabric PoPs, BT offers the option to request new links, ensuring they are ready for the launch of live services in early 2025.
Digital management portal
As part of its readiness strategy, BT is implementing a demonstration of the Global Fabric digital management portal. Starting in November, this portal will allow customers’ IT teams to:
- Learn how to configure and optimize their multi-cloud network settings.
- Experiment with application programming interfaces (APIAn API, short for “Application Programming Inter…).
- Integrate Global Fabric connectivity into other digital enterprise platforms and applications.
BT’s vision
Colin Bannon, CTO of BT Business, stated: “BT’s Global Fabric will help customers make the most of the cloud. It will offer them the ability to choose from the best cloud locations worldwide to interconnect with their customers, partners, and suppliers, facilitating their business operations both now and in the future.”
Conclusion
With the achievement of these latest milestones in the development of Global Fabric, BT is one step closer to a new era of AI-ready digital interconnectivity. The company continues to solidify its position as a leader in providing innovative and future-oriented telecommunications solutions.
