Microsoft invests 1.2 billion euros to boost artificial intelligence in Mexico

Microsoft has announced an investment of 1.2 billion euros (equivalent to 1.3 billion dollars) in Mexico over the next three years, with the aim of strengthening the artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and promoting the digital transformation of the country. The announcement was made by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during the Microsoft AI Tour 2024 event held in Mexico City.

National Artificial Intelligence Skills Program

As part of this initiative, Microsoft will launch the National Artificial Intelligence Skills Program, which aims to train 5 million Mexicans in AI-related competencies. In addition, the program aims to reach 30,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to accelerate their digital transformation.

Improving Connectivity

In collaboration with Viasat, Microsoft has committed to providing internet access to over 150,000 Mexicans who currently lack cellular connectivity. This goal is expected to be achieved by the end of 2025, as part of a broader initiative that aims to reach 1.45 million people across the country.

Economic and Social Impact

Microsoft’s investment is designed to drive inclusive economic growth and social development in Mexico through AI and technology. By equipping individuals and businesses with skills and infrastructure in AI, Microsoft aims to position Mexico at the forefront of the artificial intelligence revolution.

This significant investment reflects Microsoft’s commitment to Mexico’s technological development and its vision of a future driven by AI. It is expected that this initiative will have a lasting impact on the country’s digital economy and prepare its workforce for the challenges of tomorrow.
