Edera raises 5 million dollars to revolutionize security in Kubernetes and AI

Edera, a tech startup based in Seattle, has announced a $5 million raise in an initial funding round. The company, founded by an all-female team, positions itself as the only secure-by-design Kubernetes and AI solution in the world.

An innovative solution to persistent security issues

Edera’s technology utilizes a type 1 hypervisor to offer container-level isolation, a novelty in the industry. This approach promises to radically change the way containers are executed, making container escapes impossible once and for all.

According to Alex Zenla, CTO and co-founder of Edera, “Our product is based on proven technologies and introduces a secure in-memory Rust control plane to radically change the Kubernetes security landscape.”

Industry Impact

Edera’s solution comes at a critical time for the industry. Despite Kubernetes turning 10 earlier this year, secure execution of multi-tenant workloads remains an unresolved and costly issue for companies.

Recent studies indicate that:

  • Almost 70% of companies have delayed deployments due to security concerns.
  • Around 90% have reported at least one incident related to Kubernetes or containers in the last 12 months.
  • Half have lost revenue and customers due to security incidents.

A diverse team for an innovative approach

Edera stands out not only for its technology but also for the diversity of its founding team:

  1. Ariadne Conill: Co-founder and Distinguished Engineer, creator of Wolfi and maintainer of Alpine Linux.
  2. Emily Long: Co-founder and CEO, former COO at Chainguard and Anchore.
  3. Alex Zenla: Co-founder and CTO, early contributor to the Dart programming language and founder of the DSA IoT platform.

Emily Long, CEO of Edera, emphasizes the importance of diversity in the team: “We want to build something different at Edera, not just in the technology we deliver, but in how we build and deliver it.”

Backing from prominent investors

The funding round was led by 645 Ventures and Eniac Ventures, with participation from FPV Ventures, Generationship, Precursor Ventures, and Rosecliff Ventures. Angel investors include Joe Beda, co-creator of Kubernetes, and other technology and security experts.

Future outlook

With this investment, Edera plans to expand its team and support new clients and partnerships. The company currently offers Edera Protect Kubernetes and is developing Edera Protect AI, accepting design partners for this latest solution.

Edera’s innovative vision promises to transform enterprise security and save millions across the industry, marking a milestone in cloud and Kubernetes security evolution.
