In a context where sustainability has become a key aspect for companies globally, 75% of Spanish companies have set sustainability goals for their Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. Additionally, almost 89% of IT professionals consider commitment to technological sustainability essential. These findings come from the 2024 Ynvolve Barometer, a recent study conducted with approximately 300 IT professionals in Spain.
According to the 2024 Sustainable Development Survey of the UN Global Compact Spain, published in August, 70% of Spanish companies already have a sustainability strategy or plan, and 84% consider sustainability to offer a competitive advantage. These results highlight the growing importance of taking greater environmental responsibility and support the data from the 2024 Ynvolve Barometer.
Ynvolve, a company specializing in circular IT solutions with over 15 years of experience in the sector, promoted this study to emphasize the importance for companies to become increasingly aware and respectful of the environment. The report reveals that only 6% of Spanish companies do not prioritize environmental protection. This growing awareness is driving many organizations to adopt more responsible practices in their daily operations.
Implementation of sustainable practices
The report by Ynvolve highlights that 27% of companies have not only set sustainable goals for their technological infrastructure, but have also begun actively implementing them. This significant progress towards integrating sustainability demonstrates a real commitment by Spanish companies to reduce their environmental impact.
Martijn Niessen, CEO and founder of Ynvolve, comments that “the challenge for Spanish companies is to find a balance between technological innovation and sustainability. Environmental responsibility is no longer an option, it is an urgent necessity to ensure a prosperous future. By adopting sustainable practices, companies not only protect the environment, but also optimize their resources and improve their competitiveness in the market.”
Circular economy in the IT sector
Ynvolve is a pioneer in promoting the circular economy in the IT sector, facilitating the use of refurbished hardware and extending the lifecycle of equipment. These practices not only reduce costs, but also contribute to electronic waste reduction and natural resource conservation. According to a report from the UN Global Compact in Spain, a circular production and consumption model could unlock global GDP growth of over 4 trillion euros by 2030.
Although there is still a long way to go, collective awareness of the circular economy is increasing. More and more companies are opting for sustainable solutions when managing their technological infrastructure. This trend reflects a positive shift towards greater environmental responsibility in the IT sector.
“Companies are starting to see the economic and operational advantages of choosing refurbished equipment, not only in terms of cost reduction, but also in improving flexibility and resource availability,” adds Martijn Niessen. “Beyond being a regulatory requirement and a social commitment, sustainability is now an economic criterion, a market positioning strategy, and a key to success.”
