On October 3rd, the TurisTIC Forum will be held at the Paraninfo of the Barcelona Provincial Council, located in the Industrial School campus. Organized by the technological center Eurecat, this congress will focus on technological innovation to promote sustainability in the tourism sector.
The TurisTIC Forum will be structured in three thematic blocks, each dedicated to different aspects of sustainable and digital transformation of tourism. The first block will focus on the circular economy and will present technological innovations to improve water management and efficiency, as well as waste management. Participants include Eurecat, the Catalan Water Partnership, the Guild of Hotels in Barcelona, and Swifton Innoveering.
The second block will address the decarbonization of the tourism sector, with a prominent intervention by the expert in Tourism and Climate Action, Jeremy Smith. Smith, co-author of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, will present strategies to reduce global tourism emissions, aligned with international emission reduction commitments for 2030 and the goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050.
In this block, there will also be a debate on the implementation of concrete actions to address the climate emergency and how the tourism and mobility sectors can collaborate to achieve these goals. In addition, the geographer and meteorologist Francesc Mauri will offer insight into current climate figures and their implications for the tourism sector.
The third block of the congress will focus on the digital transformation of tourism and the creation of new data spaces. Technological solutions will be discussed to improve efficiency and sustainability in accommodations, travel agencies, and tourist experiences. It will also explore new models in the sector and the European data strategy, which aims to establish a single market for secure and open data to promote digitalization and reduce environmental impact.
The TurisTIC Forum will feature the participation of innovative and sustainable projects such as The NeverRest Project, the Catalan Tourism Agency, Bookline, and the Blaumar Group, who will present their contributions to progress towards a more responsible and technological tourism.
