xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, has launched Colossus, the most powerful AI cluster in the world. This system, which integrates 100,000 liquid-cooled Nvidia H100 GPUs connected in a single network, was built in a record time of 122 days and is expected to expand to 200,000 GPUs in the coming months.
Colossus stands out not only for its magnitude, but also for the speed at which it was implemented. The infrastructure was set up over a holiday weekend in the United States, emphasizing the rapid pace at which xAI has advanced in the field of artificial intelligence.
xAI’s recent evolution is also reflected in the success of its Grok 2 model, which has matched the performance of OpenAI’s GPT-4 using around 15,000 GPUs. With the future expansion of Colossus, which will incorporate an additional 50,000 H200 GPUs, xAI is in a strong position to challenge major industry players like OpenAI and Google.
Elon Musk celebrated the achievement on Twitter, praising the work of the xAI team and its partners, including Nvidia. “Colossus is the most powerful AI training system in the world and will soon double in size,” Musk stated.
This advancement highlights xAI’s ability to develop cutting-edge AI technologies and strengthens its role as a key player in the industry’s evolution.
