Madrid is investing in advanced cybersecurity to protect the SERMAS from cyberattacks.

The Community of Madrid, through the Department of Digitalization, has announced an investment of over 35 million euros in the next four years for the implementation of advanced cybersecurity technology, specifically designed to strengthen the computer systems of the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS) and protect them from cyber attacks, especially those attempting to breach authentication protocols to access user identities.

This strategic investment aims to improve the authentication methods of approximately 113,000 SERMAS employees, allowing for constant monitoring of their behavior in applications. The main objective is to anticipate and neutralize possible threats in real time derived from password theft or cyber attacks, thus safeguarding the integrity of the data handled by SERMAS and reinforcing the identification mechanisms of public employees.

The Digitalization Councilor, Miguel López-Valverde, has emphasized that this initiative will allow the implementation of a robust defensive network that will ensure secure access to administrative data, minimizing the risk of hacking. This cutting-edge technology in Identity Threat Protection is essential to protect the healthcare network and anticipate potential threats.

In addition to this measure, the Community of Madrid has approved an additional investment of 98 million euros to strengthen the Office of Information Systems Security (OSSI), responsible for preventing, locating, and responding to electronic threats affecting SERMAS. The OSSI faces the challenge of protecting a wide and diverse healthcare network, which is crucial in a context where interaction with healthcare products, remote maintenance, continuous patient monitoring, and access to health information through smart devices are becoming more common.

This investment not only reflects the commitment of the Department of Digitalization to protecting sensitive information and privacy in the healthcare sector but also highlights the importance of having adequate and constantly evolving protection mechanisms to address the challenges posed by technological advances in the healthcare field. With these measures, the Community of Madrid positions itself at the forefront of implementing innovative solutions to ensure the security of its healthcare computer systems.
